Spain tomato fight or la Tomatina is held in Spain since 1945. La Tomatina history; People celebrate this event after two political men, in biased protest, start throwing tomatoes at many individuals and places. However, there are many theories related to Tomatina festival’s origin, but above mention theory is much acknowledged.

Another important pointer in the history of La Tomatina is the year 1975.”Los Clavarios de San Luis Bertran” controlled the whole festivities and brought in the tomatoes, which had until that time been brought by the local citizens. Soon after this, in 1980, the town committee took over the task of organizing the festival. Since then, the number of participants has improved year after year. In 2002, in the month of August, La Tomatina of Buñol had acknowledged a Festivity of International Tourist Interest. Secretary Department of Tourism declared this due to its success. In 2013, town officials introduced tickets and limited the number of participants.

   Participation is restricted. Before 2013 about 40,000 to 50,000 people crowded into this huge tomato fights. The officials have set ticketing since 2013 to restrict some participants. Now only 20,000 lucky participants participate in this tomato throwing festival Spain.

  Tomato Festival Spain or La Tomatina is a food fight festival.  People celebrate it on the last Wednesday of August each year. It is celebrated in the town of Bunol near to Valencia in Spain. People around the world make their ways to fight in this ‘World’s Biggest Food Fight.’ In this fight, People use more than one hundred metric ton of tomatoes.

How is la Tomatina celebrated?

Spanish tomato festivity is one of the biggest festivals in Spain. We can divide its celebration into two phases:


On last Wednesday of August, around 11 am many trucks show up at Plaza del Pueblo. The tomatoes come from Extremadura, where they are less expensive. Festival begins when one valiant core has climbed to the top of a two-story high, greased-up timber pole and reached the ham at the top. As nobody can reach the meaty point, the festival starts after a while. The indication for the start of the fight is sacking of water cannons. Once it begins, the battle is every man for himself.

The cleansing process

After n one hour the war ends. At this point, You cannot throw tomatoes. The cleaning process involves fire extinguishers truck running down on streets, with water provided from a Roman aqueduct. The authorities seem to be much more concerned with the cleaning of the town than cleaning of the visitors, although some kind residents will hose passers-by down. When tomato pulp flushes, the road seems completely hygiene and cleanliness.
